In many cultures, ruby is believed to represent passion, love, and courage. Ruby was believed to protect the wearer from evil spirits and bring good fortune, to enhance passion, promote courage, and bring vitality and energy. It is also associated with the root chakra, which is believed to govern grounding and stability.

It is one of the four precious gemstones, along with diamond, emerald, and sapphire.
